DRIVING AND OPERATING 199Drive SystemsAll-Wheel DriveVehicles with this feature always sendengine power to all four wheels. It isfully automatic, and adjusts itself asneeded for road conditions.BrakesElectric Brake BoostVehicles equipped with electric brakeboost have hydraulic brake circuitsthat are electronically controlled whenthe brake pedal is applied duringnormal operation. The systemperforms routine tests and turns offwithin a few minutes after the vehicleis shutdown. Noise may be heardduring this time. If the brake pedal ispressed during the tests or when theelectric brake boost system is off, anoticeable change in pedal force andtravel may be felt. This is normal.Antilock BrakeSystem (ABS)The Antilock Brake System (ABS)helps prevent a braking skid andmaintain steering while braking hard.ABS performs a system check whenthe vehicle is first driven.A momentary motor or clicking noisemay be heard while this test is goingon, and the brake pedal may moveslightly. This is normal. If there is a problem with ABS, thiswarning light stays on. See AntilockBrake System (ABS) Warning Light0 126.ABS does not change the time neededto get a foot on the brake pedal anddoes not always decrease stoppingdistance. If you get too close to thevehicle ahead, there will not beenough time to apply the brakes ifthat vehicle suddenly slows or stops.Always leave enough room ahead tostop, even with ABS.
