SEATS AND RESTRAINTS 89Securing a Child RestraintDesigned for the LATCH System{ WarningA child could be seriously injured orkilled in a crash if the childrestraint is not properly attached tothe vehicle using either the LATCHanchors or the vehicle seat belt.Follow the instructions that camewith the child restraint and theinstructions in this manual.{ WarningTo reduce the risk of serious orfatal injuries during a crash, do notattach more than one childrestraint to a single anchor.Attaching more than one childrestraint to a single anchor couldcause the anchor or attachment tocome loose or even break during acrash. A child or others could beinjured.{ WarningChildren can be seriously injured orstrangled if a shoulder belt iswrapped around their neck. Theshoulder belt can tighten butcannot be loosened if it is locked.The shoulder belt locks when it ispulled all the way out of theretractor. It unlocks when theshoulder belt is allowed to go allthe way back into the retractor, butit cannot do this if it is wrappedaround a child’s neck. If theshoulder belt is locked andtightened around a child’s neck, theonly way to loosen the belt is tocut it.Buckle any unused seat beltsbehind the child restraint sochildren cannot reach them. Pullthe shoulder belt all the way out ofthe retractor to set the lock, andtighten the belt behind the childrestraint after the child restrainthas been installed.{ WarningThe power seats will work with theignition off. Children could operatethe power seats and be injured.Never leave children alone in thevehicle.CautionDo not adjust the power seat whena child restraint is installed.Adjusting the seat may causedamage to the installed childrestraint. Use the window lockoutbutton on the driver door toprevent adjustment of the seatwhenever a child restraint isinstalled.
