During a call, the name (ifprogrammed) is shown on the telephone display instead of theexternal line number or internal telephone number of thecaller. Step-by-step instructions for adding or changing thename of a telephone or a line are in “Changing the name of atelephone” on page 20.Telephone names and line names can contain both letters andnumbers, but cannot be longer than seven characters. Youcannot use the # and * symbols.Moving telephonesIf automatic telephone relocation is enabled in programmingby your installer or customer service representative, you canmove your telephone from one Norstar jack to another withoutlosing any of its custom programming.Tip -You can give the same name to two or moretelephones, or to a telephone and a line in your system. Toavoid confusion, avoid such duplication. Use initials,abbreviations, or even nicknames to give each telephonea unique name.If automatic telephone relocation is turned on, the nameand internal number of a telephone are saved if thetelephone is moved within your system.You may be required by law to report any telephone movesto your local telecommunications carrier or 911 serviceprovider.
