TB8100 Service Kit User’s Manual Connecting and Logging On 19Connecting and Logging OnThe following instructions describe how to connect a Service Kit to a basestation via a direct RS-232 link to the control panel. For more detail, see“Connecting to a Base Station” on page 44 and “Logging On” on page 46.To connect and log on to a base station1. If the Service Kit is not already running, select Start > Programs > TaitProgramming Applications > TB8100 Service Kit.2. Connect the supplied cable or a standard mouse extension cable from a serialport on your PC to the serial port on the control panel.3. If the subrack has more than one base station, make sure that the controlpanel selects the base station you want to connect to.4. On the toolbar, click Connect. The Connecting dialog box appears.5. In the Connect to box, select a connection for the serial port you used. TheType field now shows ‘Direct Connection.’6. Click Connect.7. If the reciter is fitted with an Ethernet interface, turn its power off and thenon again; the control panel serial port is only available straight after basestation start-up.Once the connection is established, the Log On dialog box appears.8. Log on to the base station as follows.a. Select an access level.b. Enter the password for that level of access to the base station. (For moreinformation, see “Logon Details” on page 47.)c. Click OK to log on and close the dialog box. The status bar shows thename of the connection and the base station you are logged on to.You can now monitor the base station, conduct diagnostic tests, and read andmodify the base station’s configuration.
