TB8100 Service Kit User’s Manual Working with Different Versions 57Working with Different VersionsAs time goes by, it is natural to end up with a system that has a mixture ofversions. For example:Q A module fails and its replacement has a newer hardware version.Q New firmware offers a highly desirable feature so a module is upgraded.Q A new Service Kit version is released and is loaded on the PC.When modules with different versions try to work together, compatibilityproblems can arise. The following offers some guidance.Quick Tips Q A PC can only have one Service Kit version installed at a time. Ensure thatupgrading the Service Kit does not make it incompatible with your basestation equipment.Q A new Service Kit can only save a configuration in its own format, but itcan program the information into an older base station.Q Version numbers are incremented when an update is made. Versions that aredesigned to work with each other don't necessarily have the same versionnumber.Q For information about compatibility for particular versions, see the ReleaseNotes (on the Product CD).ReplacingModules When replacing a PA, PMU, or reciter module, check the Release Notes toensure that the module is compatible with the other modules in the subrack.(Hardware versions are on the module label. The Service Kit can displayfirmware versions).UpgradingFirmware You can use the Service Kit to upgrade the firmware of a base station module. The Service Kit will only let you select firmware versions that are compatiblewith each other and with the respective module's hardware version.Upgrading theService KitBefore installing a version of the Service Kit from the product CD, check thecompatibility table in the Release Notes to make sure that the Service Kit willbe compatible with the base station modules' firmware and hardware versions.
