Connect the Service Kit physically to the base station, using one of thefollowing methods.Q Connect one end of an ordinary Ethernet cable to the Service Kit PCand the other to a port on the site hub.Note: The PC will need an IP address that is on the same subnet asthe base station.Q Connect the Service Kit PC directly to the RJ45 connector at the rearof the reciter using an Ethernet cross-over cable.Q Connect the Service Kit remotely, following the instructions in TN-1142-AN.2. Click Connect. The Connecting dialog box appears.3. In the Connect to box, select the named connection for the base stationfrom the drop-down list. (This list displays connections that have recentlybeen used. The last-used connection appears first.) The connection typemust be ‘Network connection.’ If this connection does not appear, clickConnections to edit an existing connection or create a new one. For moreinformation, see “Setting Up and Configuring Connections” on page 34.4. Click Connect.If the connection succeeds, the Log On dialog box appears.If the status display shows “Connection failure. Remote host is notresponding,” the Service Kit is unable to reach the base station.If the status display shows “Connection refused by target machine,” theService Kit has received a reply to its TCP message asking to connect, butthe connection request has been refused. This refusal could be sent by thebase station or by network equipment such as a router.The base station will not accept connection requests in these situations:Q After base station start-up (for 40-60 seconds)Q After a Service Kit programs a configuration into the base station anddisconnects (the base station takes 30-40 seconds to re-check its Ethernetinterface configuration)Q After the base station sends a Syslog or heartbeat message(10–40 seconds)Q When the Ethernet interface is being used by another Service Kit or CCIconnectionThe Service Kit will keep trying to connect until you click Cancel. Ifconnecting remotely does not succeed after two minutes, you may be ableto use ping to see if the base station is accessible.
