Before handlingthe rear shock absorber, read and makesure you understand the following informa-tion. The manufacturer cannot be heldresponsible for property damage or per-sonal injury that may result from improperhandling of the rear shock absorber.• Do not tamper or attempt to open the rearshock absorber.• Do not subject the rear shock absorber toan open flame or any other source of highheat. High heat can cause an explosiondue to excessive gas pressure.• Do not deform or damage the rear shockabsorber in any way. Rear shock absorberdamage will result in poor damping per-formance.EAS23190DISPOSING OF A REAR SHOCKABSORBER1. Gas pressure must be released before dis-posing of a rear shock absorber. To releasethe gas pressure, drill a 2–3-mm holethrough the rear shock absorber at a point15–20 mm from its end as shown.WARNINGEWA13760Wear eye protection to prevent eye damagefrom released gas or metal chips.EAS23230REMOVING THE REAR SHOCK ABSORBERASSEMBLY1. Stand the vehicle on a level surface.WARNINGEWA13120Securely support the vehicle so that thereis no danger of it falling over.NOTE:Place the vehicle on a suitable stand so thatthe rear wheel is elevated.2. Remove:• Rear shock absorber assembly lower bolt“1”• Relay arm-to-swingarm bolt “2”NOTE:While removing the rear shock absorberassembly lower bolt, hold the swingarm so thatit does not drop down.3. Remove:• Rear shock absorber upper bracket nut “1”• Rear shock absorber assemblyNOTE:Lower the swingarm, and the remove the rearshock absorber assembly from between theswingarm and frame.EAS23240CHECKING THE REAR SHOCK ABSORBERASSEMBLY1.
