Remove:• Cylinder head nuts• Cylinder head boltsNOTE:• Loosen the nuts in the proper sequence asshown.• Loosen each nut 1/2 of a turn at a time. Afterall of the nuts are fully loosened, removethem.EAS24160CHECKING THE CYLINDER HEAD1. Eliminate:• Combustion chamber carbon deposits(with a rounded scraper)NOTE:Do not use a sharp instrument to avoid damag-ing or scratching:• Spark plug bore threads• Valve seats2. Check:• Cylinder headDamage/scratches → Replace.NOTE:Replace the titanium valves with the cylinderhead.Refer to "CHECKING THE VALVE SEATS"on page 5-25.• Cylinder head water jacketMineral deposits/rust → Eliminate.3. Measure:• Cylinder head warpageOut of specification → Resurface the cylin-der head.▼▼▼▼▼▼▼▼▼▼▼▼▼▼▼▼▼▼▼▼▼▼▼▼▼▼▼▼▼▼a. Place a straightedge “1” and a thicknessgauge “2” across the cylinder head.b. Measure the warpage.c. If the limit is exceeded, resurface the cylin-der head as follows.d.
