8-2 FRX8000 3.0 User Guide, Rev 02Configuring Bandwidth Allocation GroupsTo optimize bandwidth use among traffic sharing DLCIs, each frame relay IPinterface, IPX interface, LLC2 interface, and X.25 logical port can be assigned to oneof sixteen bandwidth allocation groups. (Each of these can also be configured to beunassigned; however, all traffic on a frame relay DLCI should be either assigned orunassigned, to avoid unpredictable results in bandwidth allocation.)If traffic in a group does not require the full allocation, unused bandwidth will beavailable to other groups. Allocation is applied only when available bandwidth islimited (i.e., packets must be queued before transmission). For further control, bandwidth allocation can be enabled or disabled on each framerelay port. Two protocols in the same group will receive first-come, first-serve pri-ority within their group. However, if these same two protocols are assignedto different groups with identical parameter values, the protocols willreceive equal priority in the queue.Be sure you fully understand the needs of network users beforeassigning bandwidth allocation groups; this feature can showadverse effects if configured incorrectly. To configure one or more bandwidth allocation groups, press [G], [C] at the NetworkConfiguration Menu.Figure 8-1 Bandwidth Allocation Group Menu[A],[A],[G],[C] from Main MenuFrame R elay Ban dwidth A lloc.
