Power problemsThis information provides steps for solving power problems.Table 36. Symptoms and actions for power problemsv Follow the suggested actions in the order in which they are listed in the Action column until the problem issolved.v See Chapter 5, “Parts listing, System x3750 M4 Types 8722 and 8733,” on page 215 to determine whichcomponents are customer replaceable units (CRU) and which components are field replaceable units (FRU).v If an action step is preceded by (Trained service technician only), that step must be performed only by a Trainedservice technician.Symptom ActionThe power-on button does notwork, and the reset button doeswork (the server does not start).Note: The power-on button willnot function untilapproximately 10 seconds afterthe server has been connectedto ac power.1. Make sure that the server has power by checking the ac power LED and the dcpower LED on the power supply. If both of the ac power LED and the dcpower LED are lit, reseat the power supply. If one of the LED is off, then see“Power-supply LEDs” on page 179.2. If you just installed an optional device, remove it and restart the server. If theserver now starts, you might have installed more devices than the powersupply can support.3. Check the IMM event log and resolve any errors related to the device.4. Make sure that the power interposer card is connected to the power supplyconnector and the system board correctly.5. Attempt to use the force power on jumper (see Table 3 on page 30). If theserver starts, replace the operator information panel and operator informationpanel cable.The server does not turn off 1. Determine whether you are using an Advanced Configuration and PowerInterface (ACPI) or a non-ACPI operating system. If you are using a non-ACPIoperating system, complete the following steps:a. Press Ctrl+Alt+Delete.b. Turn off the server by pressing the power-on button and holding it downfor 5 seconds.c. Restart the server.d. If the server fails POST and the power-on button does not work, disconnectthe ac power cord for 20 seconds; then, reconnect the ac power cord andrestart the server.2. If the problem remains or if you are using an ACPI-aware operating system,suspect the system board.The server unexpectedly shutsdown, and the LEDs on theoperator information panel arenot lit.1. Check the IMM event log for errors and resolve any errors associated with thedevice.2. If you are unable to check the IMM event log, see the steps for “Thepower-control button does not work, and the reset button does work (theserver does not start).” symptom in this table.3.
