Replacing the ServeRAID M1115 SAS/SATA Controller for SystemxThis information provides instructions on how to replace the ServeRAID M1115SAS/SATA Controller for System x.About this taskNote: For additional information and notes about installing adapters, see“Installing an adapter” on page 70.The ServeRAID M1115 SAS/SATA adapter provides base RAID levels 0, 1, and 10support. See “Supported adapters” on page 72 and Table 16 on page 71 for moreinformation. For configuration information, see the ServeRAID documentation athttp://www.ibm.com/supportportal/.Attention: Some cluster solutions require specific code levels or coordinated codeupdates. If the device is part of a cluster solution, verify that the latest level ofcode is supported for the cluster solution before you update the code.To install the adapter, complete the following steps:Procedure1. Read the safety information that begins on page “Safety” on page vii and“Installation guidelines” on page 35.2. Touch the static-protective package that contains the new ServeRAID M1115SAS/SATA adapter to any unpainted surface on the outside of the server;then, grasp the adapter by the top edge or upper corners of the adapter andremove it from the package.3. Align the ServeRAID M1115 SAS/SATA adapter so that the keys aligncorrectly with the connector on the riser-card assembly.4. Insert the SAS/SATA adapter into the connector on the riser-card until it isfirmly seated.Attention: Incomplete insertion might cause damage to the server or theadapter.5. Reinstall the cable to the RAID cache card, if it was removed (see “Replacinga RAID cache card” on page 277).6. Reinstall the riser-card assembly onto the connector on the system board.7.
