You must have a supported Web browser installed on your remoteworkstation to communicate with the appliance server. The supported browsers areMicrosoft® Internet Explorer versions 4.01 through 5.5.The IBM Advanced Appliance Configuration Utility agent is preinstalled on theappliance server. You can use the Advanced Appliance Configuration Utility tomanage one or many appliance servers. You must install the Advanced ApplianceConfiguration Utility console from the Supplementary CD on the remote workstationyou are using to manage the appliance server.Notes:1. If you are using Internet Explorer 5.x, you must install Java™ Virtual Machine(VM) support to access the appliance server through UM Services.2. UM Services requires Microsoft VM Build 3165 or later. Download the latestMicrosoft VM from the Microsoft Web site.3. The remote workstation running the Advanced Appliance Configuration Utilitymust be on the same physical subnet as the appliance server.Software on the xSeries 130The following software is installed on the xSeries 130 appliance server. You mightneed to install additional components to use all of the software features.• Microsoft Windows® PoweredMicrosoft Windows Powered is optimized for the xSeries 130 appliance server.• IBM Advanced Appliance Configuration UtilityThe Advanced Appliance Configuration Utility agent is preinstalled on yourappliance server. You must install the Advanced Appliance Configuration Utilityconsole from the Supplementary CD on a remote workstation that is on the samephysical subnet as your appliance server. The utility detects the presence ofxSeries appliances on the network, and enables you to set up and manage thenetwork configuration for one or multiple appliance servers. The IBM AdvancedAppliance Utility provides the following:— Automatic discovery of appliance servers— Point to point management— Installation and management of multiple appliances— Automatic assignment of static IP addresses from a specified range to newlyinstalled appliances— DHCP compatibility— Reprovisioning, which enables you to do the following on your applianceserver:– Create an appliance image– Apply an appliance image– Remotely initiate a factory image restorationYou can also use the Advanced Appliance Configuration Utility to start UniversalManageability Services (UM Services) on the appliance server, and perform otheradvanced systems-management tasks.
