62 IBM xSeries 130: User’s ReferenceInstalling adapters in the model 8654The model 8654 appliance server supports the installation of ServerProven adapters.Your appliance server comes with two peripheral component interconnect (PCI)adapter slots on the system board with riser cards installed in them.Note: Your appliance server also comes with an integrated video controller on thesystem board. When you install a video adapter in a PCI slot, the applianceserver BIOS automatically disables the integrated video controller. Thisenables the video adapter in the PCI slot to control the video functions for yourmonitor.The following illustration shows the location of the PCI expansion slots on the model8654 system board.Figure 18. Identifying adapter placementAdapter considerationsBefore you install adapters in the model 8654, review the following:• Locate the documentation that comes with the adapter and follow thoseinstructions in addition to the instructions in this chapter. If you need to changethe switch settings or jumper settings on your adapter, follow the instructions thatcome with the adapter.• You can install 32-bit or 64-bit full-length or half-length adapters in the expansionslots. Full-length adapters are installed in slot 1; half-length adapters are installedin either slot 1 or 2.• Your appliance server supports 5.0 V and universal PCI adapters; it does notsupport 3.3 V only adapters.• Your appliance server uses a rotational interrupt technique to configure PCIadapters.
