70 IBM xSeries 130: User’s ReferenceComplete the following steps to connect the ASM bus:1. Locate the RS-485 connectors on the rear of the appliance servers and severalUTP cables with RJ-45 connectors.2. Starting at the top appliance server in the ASM bus, connect one end of the cableinto the RS-485 (B) connector and the other end of the cable into the RS-485 (A)connector of the next appliance server.3. Continue connecting the appliance servers together in this manner until you reachthe second-to-last appliance server in the ASM bus.4. Connect a cable from the RS-485 (B) connector of the second-to-last applianceserver to the RS-485 (B) connector of the last appliance server. Refer to thefollowing illustration to see how to connect the ASM bus.Note: Be sure that the first and last connection of the ASM interconnect networkare in Port B of the appliance servers.Figure 23. Continue with “Connecting appliance servers with a C2T chain”.Connecting appliance servers with a C2T chainTo share the same monitor, keyboard, and pointing device with several applianceservers, you must connect the appliance servers together with Cable ChainTechnology (C2T) interconnect cables through the C2T (In) and C2T (Out)connectors. The C2T chaining cable uses physically different shells and different-coloredconnector covers (a black cover for out and a white cover for in) to prevent theaccidental connection of two C2T (Out) connectors. Before you begin, review the following:• You can connect a maximum of 42 appliance servers with the C2T chainingcables.RS-485(A)RS-485(A)RS-485(A)RS-485(A)RS-485(A)RS-485(B)RS-485(B)RS-485(B)RS-485(B)RS-485(B)Ethernet cablewith RJ-45 connectors
