User Guide240www.nec-computers.comCreating Partition SizeThe minimum size for the partition where the system is to be installed can be calculatedfrom the following formula.Size necessary to install the system + Paging File Size + Dump File SizeSize necessary to install the system=2900 MB (Windows Server 2003 only)3500 MB (Windows Server 2003 + Service Pack 1)3500 MB (Windows Server 2003 R2)4400 MB (Windows Server 2003 + Service Pack 1 CD-ROM)Paging File Size (Recommended)= Mounted Memory Size × 1.5Dump file Size= Mounted Memory Size + 12 MBApplication size = Required sizeCaution■ The above-mentioned paging file size is recommended forcollecting debug information (memory dump). A paging filewith an initial size large enough to store the dump file in theboot drive is required. It may be impossible to collect correct debugging informationdue to a virtual memory shortage if the paging file is insuffi-cient, so we recommend you set a paging file large enoughfor the entire system.■ The maximum paging file size which can be set on one parti-tion is 4095 MB. If the above paging file size exceeds4095 MB, specify 4095 MB for the paging file size.■ The maximum dump file size for the system with more than2 GB memory mounted is '2048 MB + 12 MB'.■ If you install any application program or the like, add neces-sary space to the partition to install these programs. For example, if the mounted memory size is 512 MB, the minimally required partitionsize will be calculated by the above formula as follows:2900 MB + (512 MB * 1.5) + (512 MB + 12 MB) + Application size= 4192 MB +Application sizeIf the required partition size is larger than the size of a hard disk drive, we recommendyou split the file across several disks.1. Set the "Size required for installation + Paging file size".
