Using Set-Up Mode5-14Deciding Which Options to ChangeThe previous page shows a printout of the printer’s factory settings. In this printout, options are listed by functional group:z MACRO 1 and MACRO 2 functionsz INSTALL functionz ADJUST functionz MENU-ACCES functionMost selectable values only alter print features such as the type style and page format. Some values must be selected correctly for the printer to work properly with yourhardware and software, however. For each function, the following table lists optionswhose values must be selected correctly for your system and printer.Required OptionsFunction Option ValueMACRO 1MACRO 2PROTOCOL The protocol selected on the printer mustbe the same as the protocol selected inyour software. If you selected a protocolwhen you set up the printer, you do notneed to change the PROTOCOL optionunless you want to change to a differentprotocol. For MACRO 1, the factory setting is PORTDEPND (Port Dependent). This means thatthe active protocol depends on which portis actually used by the printer. The protocolfor the serial port (PRTCL SERL) is factoryset to DEC PPL2, and the protocol for theparallel port (PRTCL PARL) is factory set toEPSON-ESCP.For MACRO 2, the factory setting is alsoPORT DEPND. The protocol for the serialport (PRTCL SERL) is also set to DECPPL2, but the protocol for the parallel port(PRTCL PARL) is factory set to IBMPPX24.See the section “Changing Macro 1 andMacro 2 Options” later in this chapter.
