CRANKCASE5-72EAS25550DISASSEMBLING THE CRANKCASE1. Place the engine upside down.2. Remove:• Crankcase boltsTIP• Loosen each bolt 1/4 of a turn at a time, instages and in a crisscross pattern. After all ofthe bolts are fully loosened, remove them.• Loosen the bolts in increasing numericalorder (refer to the numbers in the illustration).• The numbers embossed on the crankcaseindicate the crankcase tightening sequence.3. Remove:• Lower crankcaseECA13900Tap on one side of the crankcase with asoft-face hammer. Tap only on reinforcedportions of the crankcase, not on thecrankcase mating surfaces. Work slowlyand carefully and make sure the crankcasehalves separate evenly.4. Remove:• Dowel pinsEAS25580CHECKING THE CRANKCASE1. Thoroughly wash the crankcase halves in amild solvent.2. Thoroughly clean all the gasket surfacesand crankcase mating surfaces.3. Check:• CrankcaseCracks/damage → Replace.• Oil delivery passagesObstruction → Blow out with compressedair.EAS25650ASSEMBLING THE CRANKCASE1. Lubricate:• Crankshaft journal bearings(with the recommended lubricant)2. Apply:• Sealant(onto the crankcase mating surfaces)TIPDo not allow any sealant to come into contactwith the oil gallery or crankshaft journal bear-ings. Do not apply sealant to within 2–3 mm(0.08–0.12 in) of the crankshaft journal bear-ings.3. Install:• Dowel pins4. Set the shift drum assembly and transmis-sion gears in the neutral position.5.
