NEUTRAL (N): In this position, the engine doesnot connect with the wheels. To restart whenyou are already moving, use NEUTRAL (N) only.You can also use NEUTRAL (N) when yourvehicle is being towed.{CAUTION:Shifting into a drive gear while yourengine is running at high speed isdangerous. Unless your foot is firmly onthe brake pedal, your vehicle could movevery rapidly. You could lose control andhit people or objects. Do not shift into adrive gear while your engine is running athigh speed.Notice: Shifting out of PARK (P) orNEUTRAL (N) with the engine running at highspeed may damage the transmission. Therepairs would not be covered by your warranty.Be sure the engine is not running at highspeed when shifting your vehicle.DRIVE (D): This position is for normal driving. Itprovides the best fuel economy for your vehicle. Ifyou need more power for passing, and you are:• Going less than 35 mph (55 km/h), pushthe accelerator pedal about halfway down.• Going about 35 mph (55 km/h) or more, pushthe accelerator all the way down.The transmission will shift down to a lowergear and have more power.Downshifting the transmission in slippery roadconditions could result in skidding, see “Skidding”under Loss of Control on page 332.118
