Manual OperationyN z(Mode): Pressing the mode switch andchanging the mode cancels automatic operationand allows the operator to manually select the airdelivery location. Press AUTO to return toautomatic operation.The outboard air outlets always receive airflowregardless of the mode selected. See OutletAdjustment on page 237 to change this airflowfrom the outboard outlets.To change the current mode, select one of thefollowing:Y(Vent): This mode directs air to the instrumentpanel outlets.\(Bi-Level): This mode directs about half of theair to the instrument panel outlets, and thendirects most of the remaining air to the flooroutlets. In automatic operation, cooler air isdirected to the upper outlets and warmer air to thefloor outlets.[(Floor): This mode directs most of the air tothe floor outlets with some air directed to theoutboard outlets, and a little air directed tothe windshield and side windows.The mode switch can also be used to select thedefog mode. Information on defogging anddefrosting can be found later in this section.yAz(Fan): Press this switch to increase ordecrease the fan speed. Pressing this switchcancels automatic operation and allows theoperator to manually select the amount of airflow.Press AUTO to return to automatic operation.If the airflow seems low when the fan speed is atthe highest setting, the passenger compartmentair filter may need to be replaced. For moreinformation, see Passenger Compartment Air Filteron page 239 and Scheduled Maintenance onpage 505.h(Recirculation): Press this button to controlthe air source for the climate control system. Ifin AUTO mode, press this button once toselect recirculation. This mode keeps outside airfrom coming in the vehicle and recirculates the airin the vehicle. It can be used to prevent outsideair and odors from entering the vehicle or tohelp cool the air inside the vehicle more quickly.232
