Instrumentation and Controls. . . 74CompassWith the ignition on, the compassreading will appear in the driverinformation center display.As you are driving, N (North), NE(North East), E (East), SE (SouthEast), S (South), SW (South West),W (West) or NW (North West)should appear on the display toshow your vehicle's direction.If, after a few seconds, the readingdoes not appear, the compass mayneed calibration.There may be a strong magneticfield (from various magneticobjects on the vehicle) interferingwith the compass.Turn off the engine, move themagnetic objects, then restart theengine and calibrate the compass.If CAL appears in the Driver Infor-mation Center display, thecompass needs calibration.See "Compass Calibration" later inthis section for more information.It may be necessary to adjust thecompass to compensate forcompass variance.If an incorrect reading is displayed,first check that the compass is setto the correct variance zone.
