PERIODIC MAINTENANCE3-16EAS21160ADJUSTING THE FRONT DISC BRAKE1. Adjust:• Brake lever position(distance “a” from the throttle grip to thebrake lever)TIP• While pushing the brake lever forward, turnthe adjusting dial “1” until the brake lever is inthe desired position.• Adjust the groove of the adjusting dial to themark “2” at preferable position.WARNINGEWA13060• After adjusting the brake lever position,make sure the pin on the brake leverholder is firmly inserted in the hole in theadjusting dial.• A soft or spongy feeling in the brake levercan indicate the presence of air in thebrake system. Before the vehicle is oper-ated, the air must be removed by bleedingthe brake system. Air in the brake systemwill considerably reduce in loss of controland possibly an accident. Therefore,check and if necessary, bleed the brakesystem.ECA13490After adjusting the brake lever position,make sure there is no brake drag.EAS21250CHECKING THE FRONT BRAKE PADSThe following procedure applies to all of thebrake pads.1. Operate the brake.2. Check:• Front brake padWear indicators “1” almost touch thebrake disc → Replace the brake pads asa set.Refer to “FRONT BRAKE” on page 4-31.EAS21190ADJUSTING THE REAR DISC BRAKE1. Check:• Brake pedal position(distance “a” from the center of the foot-rest bracket bolt to the center of the brakepedal)Out of specification → Adjust.2. Loosen the locknut “1”.Direction “b”Brake lever distance “a” is increased.Direction “c”Brake lever distance “a” is decreased.Brake pedal position12–18 mm (0.47–0.71 in)
