AD 33-855-4 Page 61SECTION 11 MAINTENANCE, WARRANflAND SERVICE INFORMATION'l 1.1 Preventative Maintenance ProgramA periodic maintenance program is essential toassure Breaker and Switchgear reliability andintegrity. Periodic maintenance, including testing, inspection, adjustment, and repair should beperformed on both the Circuit Breaker and theSwitchgear Assembly. For normal operating condi-tions, a minimum periodic interval of 12 months isrecommended. However, additional factors, suchas equipment age, state of repair, general condi-tion, local operating environment, number ofannual cycles, etc. must be considered in deter-mining an effective maintenance interval.1 1 .2 Breaker Maintenancelnstallation of a Digitrip RMS Retrofit Kit on anexisting Circuit Breaker does not alleviate the userfrom maintaining the Circuit Breaker in goodoperating condition. The Digitrip RIMS Trip Systemwill greatly enhance the capability of the CircuitBeaker to reliably and accurately detect andinitiate a trip in the event of an overcurrent condi-tion or fault. However, the ability of the Breaker totrip and clear the fault is directly dependent on theoperating condition of the Breaker. The user should continue to follow the applicableinstructions and procedures provided by theBreaker manufacturer and incorporate them into aperiodic preventative maintenance program. Thefollowing items are not all inclusive, but should bean integral paft of such a program:1. Cleanliness: Breaker moving parts, insulation, and current carrying pads should be kept cleanfrom dust, did, and sludge.2. Lubrication: The Breaker operating mechanismshould open (trip) and close properly and notstick, bind, or jam. The Breaker should belubricated as required according to themanufacturer's recommendations.3. Contact Condition and Adjustment: Breakermoving and stationary arching and maincontacts should be in proper adjustment, ingood condition, and free from burning andpitting. Breaker primary and secondarydisconnecting contacts should be ingood condition.4. General Condition and Repair: Breakerhardware should be tight and retaining ringsintact. Worn out parts should be replaced orrepaired. Electrical connections and wireinsulation should be sound and free fromevidence of overheating.5. Digitrip RMS Trip Systern.'
