4-38 Configuring Your ServerRAID LevelsThe record mode enabling the RAID feature includes several levels. Among the levels, the OnboardRAID Controller (LSI Embedded MegaRAID) supports RAID levels 0, 1, and 10. The OptionalRAID Controller supports RAID levels 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, and 50. The number of hard disk drivesrequired to create a disk group varies depending on the RAID level as shown in the table below.RAID level Number of required hard disk drivesMin. Max.RAID 0 1 8RAID 1 2 2RAID 5 3 8RAID 6 3* 8RAID 10 4 8RAID 50 6 8* To configure RAID6 using Express Setup, at least four hard disk drives ofsame capacity must be installed.IMPORTANT: The supported RAID level depends on the RAIDController. Choose a RAID Controller appropriate to RAID system youare configuring.NOTE: For details of the RAID levels, see "RAID Levels" describedlater in this chapter.Disk GroupA disk group is configured with more than one hard disk drives. The allowable number of disk groups is equal to the number of hard disk drives. The figure below shows a sample configuration. The three hard disk drives are connected to theOnboard RAID Controller (LSI Embedded MegaRAID) or Optional RAID Controller, creatingone disk group (DG).HDD 1(36 GB)HDD 2(36 GB)HDD 3(36 GB)RAID ControllerDisk Group 0: 108 GB
