N0130943 02 Modular ICS 7.1 Installer GuidePlanning the installationOnly qualified persons should service the system. The installation and servicing of this unit is to beperformed only by service personnel havingappropriate training and experience. It is critical thatinstallers have the necessary awareness abouthazards to which they are exposed in performing atask, and of the measures required to minimize thedanger to themselves or other persons.Electrical shock hazards from the telecommunicationnetwork and AC mains are possible with thisequipment. To minimize risk to service personnel andusers, the ICS must be connected to an outlet with athird-wire ground. In addition, all unused slots shouldhave filler faceplates installed and the doors should bein place at the completion of any servicing.Service personnel must be alert to the possibility of highleakage currents becoming available on metal systemsurfaces during power line fault events near networklines. A risk point on the ICS is the power cord earthground pin. These leakage currents normally safelyflow to Protective Earth ground via the power cord. Therefore, it is mandatory that connection to agrounded outlet is performed first and removed lastwhen cabling the unit. Specifically, operations requiringthe unit to be powered down must have the networkconnections (central office lines) removed first.
