Operation Manual – IPv6 RoutingH3C S3610&S5510 Series Ethernet Switches Chapter 4 IPv6 IS-IS Configuration4-1Chapter 4 IPv6 IS-IS ConfigurationNote:z IPv6 IS-IS supports all the features of IPv4 IS-IS except that it advertises IPv6routing information instead. This document describes only IPv6 IS-IS exclusiveconfiguration tasks. For other configuration tasks, refer to the part discussing IPv4routing.z The term “router” in this document refers to a Layer 3 switch running routingprotocols.z Verify that the system already operates in IPv4/IPv6 dual-stack mode beforeconfiguring IPv6 routing.z All the IPv6 routing related configuration mentioned in this manual assumes that thesystem already operates in IPv4/IPv6 dual-stack mode. For dual stack modeconfiguration, see the part covering dual stack in the IPv6 Configuration module. When configuring IPv6 IS-IS, go to these sections for information you are interested in:z Introduction to IPv6 IS-ISz Configuring IPv6 IS-IS Basic Functionsz Configuring IPv6 IS-IS Routing Information Controlz Displaying and Maintaining IPv6 IS-ISz IPv6 IS-IS Configuration Example4.1 Introduction to IPv6 IS-ISThe IS-IS routing protocol (Intermediate System-to-Intermediate System intra-domainrouting information exchange protocol) supports multiple network protocols, includingIPv6. IS-IS with IPv6 support is called IPv6 IS-IS dynamic routing protocol. Theinternational engineer task force (IETF) defines two type-length-values (TLVs) and anew network layer protocol identifier (NLPID) to enable IPv6 support for IS-IS.TLV is a variable field in the link state PDU or link state packet (LSP). The two TLVs are:z IPv6 Reachability: Defines the prefix, metric of routing information to indicate thenetwork reachability, with a type value of 236 (0xEC).z IPv6 Interface Address: Similar with the “IP Interface Address” TLV of IPv4, ittransforms the 32-bit IPv4 address to the 128-bit IPv6 address.
