Preparing for Installation 407If your port processing requirements exceed the capacity of a singleprocessor, ConneXtions software supports either multiprocessor (dualand quad Pentium processors) or multiple gateway solutions. A Windows2000 or Windows NT system that uses a dual 800 MHz Pentiumprocessor achieves the same result.Other System RequirementsEach H.323 port requires 6 MB of memory. 3Com recommends a PC withat least 128 MB of memory. Disk storage requirements are minimal. Inaddition to memory and disk storage, the operating system needs:■ A compact disk drive for loading ConneXtions software from theNBX Resource Pack CD.■ A 3Com Network Interface Card for connecting to the NBX LAN(10BASE-T or 100BASE-T).■ A 3Com Network Interface Card for connecting to a separate firewallor router (optional). The Call Processor coordinates its activities with the gateway througha Network Interface Card (NIC) in that gateway system. The same NICcan also be used to communicate with the IP router. This single NICconfiguration is appropriate if the firewall, which separates Internetand intranet, is either unnecessary or is required by company policy.ConneXtionsSoftwareYou use the NBX Resource Pack CD to install ConneXtions software. TheConneXtions software performs the protocol conversions between anNBX system and the international H.323 standards. To a systemadministrator, H.323 ports look like PSTN line ports. Both have extensionsand are configured the same way but have different license requirements. The NBX Resource Pack CD is also required to change H.323 gatewayparameters after installation. A dealer who wants to explore possiblehardware incompatibilities by running ConneXtions from a substitutelaptop must reinstall ConneXtions on the laptop at each site.Preparing forInstallationBefore you install a ConneXtions H.323 Gateway:■ Assemble system information.■ Check for the G.723 convertor (optional).■ Verify and install the NT Service Pack (Service Pack 4) (if required).
