Configuring Wireless Parameters 249Nortel WLAN—Management Software 2300 Series Reference GuideAuto Tune TabThe Auto Tune tab lists settings for Auto-RF:• Tune Channel—Automatically configures and tunes the channel. This feature is enabled by default.• Tune Transmit Power—Automatically configures and tunes the power. This feature is disabled by default.• Channel Tuning Interval—Interval at which RF Auto-Tuning decides whether to change the channels on radios in aradio profile. At the end of each interval, WSS Software processes the results of the RF scans performed during theprevious interval, and changes radio channels if needed. You can specify from 0 to 65535 seconds. The default channel interval is 3600 seconds. Nortelrecommends that you use an interval of at least 300 seconds (5 minutes). If you set the interval to 0,RF Auto-Tuning does not reevaluate the channel at regular intervals. However, RF Auto-Tuning can stillchange the channel in response to RF anomalies.• Tx. Power Tuning Interval—Interval at which RF Auto-Tuning decides whether to change the power level onradios. You can specify from 1 to 65535 seconds. The default is 300 seconds.• Power Ramp Interval—Interval at which power is increased or decreased, in 1 dBm increments, on radios until theoptimum power level calculated by Auto-RF is reached. After each power ramp interval, the radio increases ordecreases the power by another 1 dB until the radio reaches the power level selected by Auto-RF.• Channel Tuning Holddown—Minimum number of seconds a radio in a radio profile must remain at its currentchannel assignment before RF Auto-Tuning can change the channel. The channel holddown provides additional stability to the network by preventing the radio from changingchannels too rapidly in response to spurious RF anomalies such as short-duration channel interference. You can specify from 0 to 65535 seconds. The default channel interval is 900 seconds.• Tx. Power Backoff Timer—Interval at which radios reduce power after temporarily increasing the power tomaintain the minimum data rate for an associated client. At the end of each power-backoff interval, radios that temporarily increased their power reduce it by1 dBm. The power backoff continues in 1 dBm increments after each interval until the power returns toexpected setting. You can specify from 0 to 65535 seconds. The default is 10 seconds.Service Profile Selection TabThe Profile Selection tab lists the service profiles to which the radio profile is mapped. The radios managed by the radioprofile provide wireless service for the service profiles’ SSIDs.To map the radio profile to a service profile, select the service profile in the Available Service Profiles list. Click Add tomove the profile name to the Current Service Profiles list.Note. Auto-RF of channels on 802.11a radios uses only the bottom eightchannels in the band (36, 40, 44, 48, 52, 56, 60, and 64). To use a higher channelnumber, you must disable Auto-RF of channels on the radio profile the radio is in,and statically configure the channel.
