312 Configuring WSSs RemotelyNN47250-102 (320666-G Version 02.01)• If the network plan contains a configuration with a matching model and serial number, WLANManagement Software sends the configuration to the switch. (See “Preconfiguring a switch inWLAN Management Software” (page 316).)• If the network plan does not have a configuration with a matching serial number, one of thefollowing occurs:❍ If the Auto-Config IP Subnet Matching is enabled and other requirements are met, WLANManagement Software can give the configuration to another switch with a different serialnumber, if the switch is the same model and is in the same IP subnet. (See “Replacing a switchand reusing its configuration” (page 318) for more information.)❍ If the serial number does not match and the Auto-Config IP Subnet Matching option isdisabled, WLAN Management Software cannot give the switch a configuration. WLANManagement Software generates a verification warning (on the Network Verification tab). Thewarning lists the switch’s serial number and IP address. The network administrator can uploadthe switch into the network plan, configure switch parameters, and deploy the configuration tothe switch. (See “Uploading a Partially Configured Switch and Completing its Configurationwith WLAN Management Software” on page 317.)WLAN Management Software Requirements• WLAN Management Software must be installed and WLAN Management Software Services must be running.• The WLAN Management Software Services option to always accept self-signed certificates must be enabled. Thisis required if you are using the drop-ship option with a 2350, or you have staged any model switch with aself-signed certificate. (This option is disabled by default.)• The network plan containing the WSSs must be open.Preconfiguring the switch in the network plan is optional. If you know the switch’s serial number, you can preconfigurethe switch in the network plan, and let WLAN Management Software Services deploy the configuration to the switch. If you do not know the switch’s serial number, you still can use WLAN Management Software to configure the switch. However, you will need to wait for the switch to contact WLAN Management Software, so you can upload the switch’sconfiguration, modify the configuration, then deploy the modified configuration back to the switch.Staging a WSS for Configuration by WLAN ManagementSoftwareThe auto-config option must be enabled on a WSS in order for the switch to try to contact WLAN Management SoftwareServices for configuration. The auto-config option is automatically enabled on an unconfigured 2350 when the factoryreset switch is pressed during power on. However, auto-config is disabled by default on other models. If you want another WSS model to be able to access WLAN Management Software Services for a configuration, youmust preconfigure the WSS with the following information:• IP address• Default router address• Gateway address• Domain name and DNS server address
