Chapter 5. Printer InterfacesOverviewThis chapter describes the host interfaces provided with the printer. The printerinterface is the point where the data line from the host computer plugs into theprinter. The interface processes all communications signals and data to and fromthe host computer. The printer interface consists of a printed circuit boardassembly (PCBA) and a cable connector for the data line. Communication signalsand data may be sent over parallel or serial lines. Each IBM 6500-v printer is equipped with three parallel interface protocols andtwo serial interface protocols. Coax and twinax interface protocols are available asoptional features. Each interface is selected via the operator panel configurationmenu. See Chapter 3, “Configuring the Printer,” on page 19The Ethernet interface is also an optional feature. Refer to the Ethernet InterfaceUser’s Manual for more information. This chapter describes the interfaces provided with the printer. In addition, instructions are provided for configuration of terminating resistors.v Coax / Twinaxv RS-232 serialv RS-422 serial (optional for the 6500-v20 models)v PC Parallelv Dataproducts parallelv IEEE1284v Ethernet 10/100Base-T© Copyright IBM Corp. 2005 205
