Configuring IP 13-3Using the Node as an IP GatewayAn FRM can function as an IP gateway, and forward IP packets. This requires that IPbe configured (and loaded) in the RLP file (described in Chapter 5).Required ConfigurationTo run IP in an FRM, make sure the following are properly configured in the database:l Node parameters, which is general configuration that must be done no matterwhich protocols will be run in the node. See Chapter 4.l RLPs that will contain the interface(s) to the user device(s), plus Line InterfaceCard(s) supporting the ports that will be the interfaces. See Chapter 5.l Loaded Protocol(s): IP, RIP, and the transport protocol: frame relay or X.25. SeeChapter 5.l LAN interface(s) that will connect to any attached LAN(s). See Chapter 5.l Frame relay port(s) and/or X.25 port(s) that will connect to a network or framerelay PVC. See Chapter 7 (frame relay) or Chapter 8 (X.25).l IP parameters described in this chapter.Configuring IP Node DefaultsEach FRM device supports one of three versions of the Routing Information Protocol(RIP), which used by IP to update routing tables. The device can be configured tosupport RIP Version 1, Version 2 Multicast, or Version 2 Broadcast. Updates in anyof the three versions can be received; however, only updates of the configured versionwill be transmitted. If you will be using RIP version 1, you do not need to configure a version, sinceversion 1 is the default in the database. If will be using another version, press [A] at theConfigure IP/LLC2/BRIDGE/IPX Default Parameters Menu (or [A], [A], [E], [A] fromthe Main Menu).
