Chapter 18On-line OperationsNumerous functions can be performed without disrupting normal operation of anFRM; for example:l Taking remote control of another Cabletron frame relay access devicel Backing up, restoring, and transferring filesl Enabling/disabling ports or SNA PUsl Running testsThe remainder of this chapter describes these operations and more.Remote ControlRemote control allows an operator to control a remote FRM, SmartSwitch 1800,FRX4000, or FRX6000 via:l a connection through a network into a physical or logical (via frame relay) X.25port on the node to be controlled, orl an async terminal connected to an async PAD port, through a network, into anX.25 port on the node to be controlled. These restrictions apply to the Remote Control operation:l An FRM cannot be controlled by more than one device at a time.l While remotely controlling one node, you cannot take remote control of anotherone.l While a node is under remote control, its keyboard is blocked to prevent localoperation.A Subscriber ID record for the controlled node must be configured on the node that willbe at the controlling end. The Subscriber ID in this record must be the Remote ControlID in the Node Defaults record of the node to be controlled. The 1st Routing Path in theSubscriber record must be the local port in the controlling node through which theremote connection will be made.
