The ServerGuide Setup and Installation DVD, which you can download from theweb, provides programs to help you set up the server and install a Windowsoperating system. The ServerGuide program detects installed optional hardwaredevices and provides the correct configuration programs and device drivers. Formore information about the ServerGuide Setup and Installation DVD, see “Usingthe ServerGuide Setup and Installation DVD” on page 124.v IBM Systems Director DVDIBM Systems Director is a platform-management foundation that streamlines theway you manage physical and virtual systems in a heterogeneous environment.By using industry standards, IBM Systems Director supports multiple operatingsystems and virtualization technologies for IBM and non-IBM x86 platforms. Formore information, see the IBM Systems Director documentation on the IBMSystems Director DVD and “IBM Systems Director” on page 21.v Integrated management module II (IMM2)The integrated management module II (IMM2) combines service processorfunctions, video controller, and remote presence and blue-screen capture featuresin a single chip. The IMM provides advanced service-processor control, monitoring, and alerting function. If an environmental condition exceeds athreshold or if a system component fails, the IMM lights LEDs to help youdiagnose the problem, records the error in the IMM event log, and alerts you tothe problem. The IMM also provides a virtual presence capability for remoteserver management capabilities. The IMM provides remote server managementthrough the following industry-standard interfaces:– Intelligent Platform Management Interface (IPMI) version 2.0– Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) version 3.0– Common Information Model (CIM)– Web browserFor additional information, see “Using the integrated management module” onpage 137 and the Integrated Management Module II User’s Guide athttp://www.ibm.com/support/entry/portal/docdisplay?lndocid=MIGR-5086346.v Integrated Trusted Platform Module (TPM)This integrated security chip performs cryptographic functions and storesprivate and public secure keys. It provides the hardware support for the TrustedComputing Group (TCG) specification. You can download the software tosupport the TCG specification, when the software is available. Seehttp://www.ibm.com/servers/eserver/xseries/scalable_family.html for detailsabout the TPM implementation. You can enable TPM support through the Setuputility under the System Security menu choice (see “Using the Setup utility” onpage 126).v Large data-storage capacity and hot-swap capabilityThe server can support a maximum of eight 2.5-inch drives or sixteen 1.8-inchdrives, or a combination of both 2.5-inch and 1.8-inch drives when you use thesupported SAS/SATA backplane configurations. For more information about thedrives that the server supports, see “Installing drives” on page 70.With the hot-swap feature, you can add, remove, or replace hard disk driveswithout turning off the server.v Large system-memory capacityThe server can support up to 6 TB of system memory (when using 64 GBDIMMs only). Each DDR3 compute book provides 24 dual inline memorymodule (DIMM) connectors for up to 1.5 TBs of memory. The server memorycontroller supports error correcting code (ECC) for up to 96 industry-standard14 System x3850 X6 and x3950 X6 Types 3837 and 3839: Installation and Service Guide
