While holding the starter rope 1, turn thesheave drum 2 in the direction of thearrow shown until there is no tension inthe spiral spring.NOTE:Push the starter plunger 3 in the direction ofthe arrow shown while turning the sheavedrum 2 as shown.2. Remove the drive plate 4 and drive pawlspring 1 5.3. Remove the sheave drum 2.4. Remove the spiral spring 6 from themanual starter cover.WARNINGThe spiral spring 6 can pop out. Coverthe spiral spring with rags when removingit.5. Remove the starter rope 1 and E-clip 7,and then remove the drive pawl 8, drivepawl spring 2 9, and spring 0 from thesheave drum 2.Checking the manual starter1. Check the roller, collar, drive pawl, E-clip,starter plunger, and drive plate. Replaceif cracked or damaged.2. Check the springs.
