Remove the taper roller bearing outerrace and forward gear shim(s).CAUTION:Do not reuse the bearing, always replaceit with a new one.NOTE:Fit the hooks of the puller claw into the slotsa in the lower case.2. Remove the taper roller bearing outerrace, pinion shim(s), and drive shaftsleeve.3. Remove the needle bearing from thelower case.CAUTION:Do not reuse the needle bearing, alwaysreplace it with a new one.Checking the pinion and forwardgear1. Check the teeth of the pinion, and theteeth and dogs of the forward gear.Replace the pinion or forward gear ifcracked or worn.Checking the bearing1. Check the bearings. Replace if pitted or ifthere is rumbling.Checking the drive shaft1. Check the drive shaft.
