ELEC Electrical system– +8-15 67C3K11Checking the starter relay (E and Wmodel)1. Disconnect the starter relay 1 coupler.2. Connect the special service tool 2 to thestarter relay coupler (wiring harnessend).3. Set the shift lever or remote control leverto the N position.4. Turn the engine start switch to “START,”and then measure the input voltage atthe starter relay coupler (wiring harnessend). Check the engine start switch, neu-tral switch (in the tiller handle or remotecontrol box), wiring harness, and groundlead if below specification.5. Disconnect the special service tool 2and battery cables, and then remove thestarter relay.6. Connect the digital circuit tester leads tothe starter relay terminals.7. Connect the brown (Br) lead of thestarter relay to the positive battery termi-nal and connect the black (B) lead to thenegative battery terminal. Check for con-tinuity between the starter relay termi-nals. Replace if there is no continuity.8. Disconnect the brown (Br) or black (B)lead of the starter relay from a batteryterminal. Check that there is no continuitybetween the starter relay terminals.Replace if there is continuity.9. Install the starter relay, and then connectthe battery cables, starter relay coupler, and starter relay leads.Ignition and ignition controlsystemChecking the ignition spark1. Disconnect the spark plug caps from thespark plugs.NOTE:To prevent the engine from starting whencranking it, be sure to disconnect all sparkplug caps.2.
