5-53GENERATOR AND STARTER CLUTCHEAS30869CHECKING THE STARTER CLUTCH1. Check:• Starter clutch rollerDamage/wear  Replace the starter clutch.2. Check:• Starter clutch idle gear• Starter clutch gearBurrs/chips/roughness/wear  Replace thedefective part(s).3. Check:• Starter clutch gear contacting surfaceDamage/pitting/wear  Replace the starterclutch gear.4. Check:• Starter clutch operationa. Install the starter clutch gear “1” onto thestarter clutch “2” and hold the starter clutch.b. When turning the starter clutch gear coun-terclockwise “A”, the starter clutch and thestarter clutch gear should engage, other-wise the starter clutch is faulty and must bereplaced.c. When turning the starter clutch gear clock-wise “B”, it should turn freely, otherwise thestarter clutch is faulty and must be re-placed.EAS31439CHECKING THE OIL STRAINER1.
