Be-fore cleaning the throttle bodies, check the fol-lowing items:• Valve clearance• Spark plug• Air filter element• Throttle body joint• Fuel hose• Exhaust system• Cylinder head breather hoseWARNINGEWA17340If the throttle bodies are subjected to strongshocks or dropped during cleaning, replacethem as a set.1. Clean:• Throttle bodyNOTICEECA21540• Observe the following precautions; other-wise, the throttle bodies may not operateproperly.• Do not subject the throttle bodies to exces-sive force.• Clean the throttle bodies in the recom-mended cleaning solvent.• Do not use any caustic carburetor cleaningsolution.• Do not apply cleaning solvent directly toany plastic parts, sensors, or seals.• Be careful not to remove the white paintmark that identifies the standard throttlebody.• Do not turn the bypass air screws “a”; oth-erwise, the throttle body synchronizationwill be affected.a. Place the throttle bodies on a flat surfacewith the air filter case side facing up.b. Install the caps (895-14169-00) onto thehose fittings “a”.c. Hold the throttle valves in the open position.WARNINGEWA15940When cleaning the throttle bodies, be carefulnot to injure yourself on the throttle valves orother components of the throttle bodies.NOTICEECA20380• Do not open the throttle valves by supply-ing electrical power to the throttle bodies.• Do not use tools to open the throttle valvesor to keep them in the open position.• Do not open the throttle valves quickly.d.
