SETTING ITEMS (ADMIN)- 275 -2134567Setting the SMB protocolYou can set the SMB network properties to enable access tothis equipment and SMB printing from a Microsoft Windowsnetwork. Enabling SMB allows you to enable the file sharingservice in addition to SMB printing. Furthermore, if the WINSserver is used to allow file sharing and printer sharing acrosssegments, you must specify the WINS server address so thatthis equipment is visible from the different segments.Memo• When you press [NetBIOS NAME], the on-screen keyboardis displayed.For details of the on-screen keyboard, see the followingpage: P.320 "On-screen keyboard"Note• When you select [DISABLE] for [SMB PROTOCOL] or [FILESHARE] for [RESTRICTION], the Save as File to MFP Localfunction is disabled.• If this equipment is set to log on to the domain in the SMBSession of TopAccess (administrator mode) but“Workgroup” is displayed, logging on to the domain networkhas failed. In that case, check whether the Windows Serverand the Top Access SMB Session settings are correct.• If you set “Domain” for Log-on setting in the TopAccess(administrator mode) SMB Session, and power ON thisequipment or press [APPLY NOW] after changing thenetwork settings of this equipment, the equipment logs on tothe Windows domain network.• You can enter only alphanumeric characters and “-”(hyphen) for [NetBIOS NAME].• Do not enter an IP address that starts with “0” (i.e.“0.10.10.10”), “127” (i.e. “127.10.10.10”), or “224” (i.e.“224.10.10.10”) in [WINS PRIMARY] and [WINSSECONDARY]. If you enter such an address, the equipmentcannot communicate with the WINS server.• If you enter “0.0.0.0” for [WINS PRIMARY] and [WINSSECONDARY], this equipment will not use the WINS server.• When [DYNAMIC] or [NO AUTO IP] is selected for[ADDRESS MODE] in the TCP/IP settings, this equipmentcan acquire the IP address for [WINS PRIMARY] and [WINSSECONDARY] from the DHCP server.Item name DescriptionSMB PROTOCOL • ENABLE — Press this button to usethe SMB protocol.• DISABLE — Press this button todisable the SMB protocol.When you select [ENABLE], select thefunction that you want to disable in[RESTRICTION].RESTRICTION Select whether to disable the machinesharing or file sharing function. You canselect one of the following:• NONE — Press this button when notrestricting neither the machinesharing nor the file sharing function.Both SMB printing and the filesharing service using SMB areenabled.• PRINT SHARE — Press this buttonto disable SMB printing.• FILE SHARE — Press this button todisable the file sharing service usingSMB.NetBIOS NAME Press this button to enter the name bywhich this equipment will be displayedon the Windows network. The NetBIOSname is set to "MFPnumber>" by factory default.LOGON Displays the Windows networkenvironment to which this equipment islogged on. “Workgroup” is displayed ifthis equipment is logged on to aworkgroup network and “Domain” if it islogged on to a domain network."Workgroup" or "Domain" can bespecified only from TopAccess. The primary WINS serverIP address is required when you want toallow access to this equipment from adifferent subnet using NetBIOS name,and the NetBIOS name and workgroupname of the equipment are resolvedusing the WINS server.Use the arrow buttons to switch theactive box.WINSSECONDARYPress this button to enter the IP addressof the secondary WINS server using thedigital keys. Specify the IP address ofthe secondary WINS server as neededwhen using the WINS server to resolvethe NetBIOS name and workgroupname of this equipment.
