Butyour chance of being consciousduring and after an accident, soyou can unbuckle and get out, ismuch greater if you are belted.And you can unbuckle a safetybelt, even if you areupside down.Q: If my vehicle has airbags, whyshould I have to wear safetybelts?A: Airbags are supplementalsystems only; so they work withsafety belts — not instead ofthem. Whether or not an airbagis provided, all occupants stillhave to buckle up to get themost protection. That is true notonly in frontal collisions, butespecially in side and othercollisions.Q: If I am a good driver, and Inever drive far from home,why should I wear safetybelts?A: You may be an excellent driver,but if you are in a crash — evenone that is not your fault — youand your passenger(s) can behurt.
