Do not cover thesensor, otherwise the headlamps willcome on when they are not needed. The system may also turn on theheadlamps when driving through aparking garage or tunnel. If the vehicle is started in a darkgarage, the automatic headlampsystem comes on immediately. If it islight outside when the vehicle leavesthe garage, there is a slight delaybefore the automatic headlampsystem changes to the DRL. Duringthat delay, the instrument cluster maynot be as bright as usual. Make surethe instrument panel brightnesscontrol is in the full bright position.See Instrument Panel IlluminationControl 0 152.When it is bright enough outside, theheadlamps will turn off or may changeto Daytime Running Lamps (DRL).The automatic headlamp system turnsoff when the exterior lamp control isturned to O or the ignition is off.Lights On with WipersIf the windshield wipers are activatedin daylight with the engine on, andthe exterior lamp control is in AUTO,the headlamps, parking lamps, andother exterior lamps come on. Thetransition time for the lamps comingon varies based on wiper speed. Whenthe wipers are not operating, theselamps turn off. Move the exteriorlamp control to O or ; to disablethis feature.Adaptive ForwardLighting (AFL)On vehicles with the AFL system, theheadlamps pivot horizontally toprovide greater road illuminationwhile turning. To enable AFL, set theexterior lamp control on the turnsignal lever to the AUTO position.Moving the control out of the AUTOposition will deactivate the system.AFL will operate when the vehiclespeed is greater than 3 km/h (2 mph).AFL will not operate when thetransmission is in R (Reverse). AFL isnot immediately operable afterstarting the vehicle; driving a shortdistance is required to calibrate theAFL. See Exterior Lamp Controls 0 148.Hazard Warning Flashers
