The Backing Warning part ofthis system can warn of rear objectswhen backing up at speeds greaterthan 8 km/h (5 mph). The Backing Warning System willbeep once from the rear when apotential object threat is firstdetected, or pulse twice on both sidesof the Safety Alert Seat. When thesystem detects a potential crash, beeps will be heard from the rear,or five pulses will be felt on both sidesof the Safety Alert Seat. There mayalso be a brief, sharp application ofthe brakes.{ WarningThe Backing Warning System onlyoperates at speeds greater than8 km/h (5 mph). It does not detectchildren, pedestrians, bicyclists, animals, or objects below the(Continued)Warning (Continued)bumper or that are too close or toofar from the vehicle. In somesituations, such as at higherbacking speeds, there may not beenough time for the short, sharpapplication of the vehicle brakesystem to occur. To prevent injury, death, or vehicle damage, even withthe Backing Warning System, always check the area around thevehicle and check all mirrors beforebacking. When the vehicle is in R (Reverse),if the system detects the vehicle isbacking too fast to avoid a crash witha detected object behind your vehiclein your path, it may automaticallybrake hard to a stop to help avoid orreduce the harm caused by a backingcrash.
