i-on RangePage 11Basic Programming ProceduresProgramming Before InstallationIf you prefer, you can program the control unit before installing the system in its finallocation. You will need to temporarily connect a keypad to the control unit.It is possible to operate the control unit from battery power (or a 12Vdc supply) withoutconnecting the unit to a mains supply. However, in order to start the control unit processorrunning you must briefly short the Kick Start pins together after connecting the battery.When programming the system while it is running on battery only, remember to leave theInstaller Menu before removing power. If you do not do so all your changes will be lost,see Important! Saving Changes on page 14.Built-in Web Browser Interface40 50 160If you wish to program an i-on40, i-on50EX or i-on160EX control unit from a laptop or PCyou can do this by connecting the control unit to your PC via Ethernet. You will need aCAT 5 patch cable and a laptop or PC with a standard web browser (preferably IE8 orabove). See the separate publication i-on Range Web Server Set Up Guide for instructionson how to set up your PC/laptop and the control unit.Note that the Master User of the system must enable remote access before you can usethis facility. They must enter User Menu – System Options – Facilities On/Off – RemoteAccess and set that option to “On”. If remote access is denied then the Master User canstill start a call out to Downloader.Entering and Leaving the Installer MenuFrom a KeypadWhen you enter the Installer Menu from a keypad, the alarm system is effectively disabled.While the system is in Installer Menu:Any other user trying to set the system from a keypad will see the message “Installeron Site”.All HUAs (including radio HUAs), fire alarm zones, 24 hour zones and tampers aredisabled.Note that you cannot enter the Installer menu if any partition is set, or if someone hasentered the Installer Menu from the Web Browser Interface.From a Web BrowserIf you are using the web browser interface from a PC to enter the Installer Menu on an i-on160EX, i-on50EX or i-on40 then the alarm system is disabled in the same way as if youhad entered Installer Menu from a keypad.The control unit will not allow you to log in if any partition is set, a user has entered theUser menu, or if an installer has already entered the Installer Menu from a keypad. Theweb browser will display a message at the top of the screen and you will be unable tomake any changes to the control unit.Remember that a Master User must enable remote access to the Web Browser from theUser Menu – System Config – Facilities On/Off – Remote Access option.Note: See “Code Lockout” on page 12.
