D 901Programming Operations GuideDNDThe Do Not Disturb (DND) feature stops calls from ringing at your telephone. OnlyPriority Calls will override this feature and ring at your telephone. A line button flasheswhen you receive a call, but the call does not ring. (FEATURE 86) You can set thetelephone to send this signal automatically through a setting in Capabilities. (Services,Telephony Services, System DNs)DNsA unique number that the Business Communications Manager system assigns to everytelephone or data terminal. You use the DN to identify a device for the BusinessCommunications Manager configurations that require telephone-specific features. Thesystem also assigns DNs to other applications such as Call Center and Hunt groups. ISDNand legacy Companion and DECT equipment have separate sets of DNs that are exclusiveto that type of device.Directory numbers are the digit string that the system uses to identify telephones andsystem devices and applications. The DN record provides access to configuring telephonefunctionality, including defining the features the user can access, the features thetelephone supports, and the lines that can be used by the telephone to send and receivecalls. The name space of the Internet is divided into domains, and the responsibility formanaging names within each domain is delegated, typically to systems within eachdomain.DNS proxyA Domain Name Service (DNS) proxy translates alphabetic domain names intocomputer-readable IP addresses. For example, the domain name www.nortelnetworks.comfor the Nortel Networks web site can translate to the IP address 192.177.5.18. After adomain name is translated into an IP address, the workstations on your network cancommunicate with the web site.
