REPAIR AND REPLACEMENT8-11Edition OneXC1000 Service7. Return the logic card to its original position and continue with theupgrade procedure.8. If the XC1000 runs without any problems, disable the old EPROM bybending the pins on the under side. Discard the EPROM.8.4 DRIVE REPAIRS AND REPLACEMENTSDrive components can exhibit the following common symptoms of failure: Menu 12 reports the drive not running. Status code 70, 72, CD, or CE entries are logged. When performing the Initial Program Load (IPL), the file-card statusdisplays a 03 in the first byte.Because symptoms are the same for any failed drive component, use aprocess of elimination to isolate the problem. Perform the easiest task firstand progress through to the most difficult task to isolate the problem withthe least amount of time and effort expended. The following repair and replacement procedures are described in thissection: Disassembling, reassembling, and testing drive-module subassemblies Replacing disk I/O adapter boards Replacing disk-controller boards Replacing system-drive zero Replacing system-drive one Replacing the message drives Installing additional message drivesWhen replacing or installing drive modules, inspect all connectors fordamage. When inserting a drive module into the system, use gentle, evenpressure to slide it into the drive slot. Do not force the drive into the drivebackplane. If resistance is encountered, check the connectors and drivebackplane for the following conditions: Damaged plastic in and around the connectors, broken ejectors, orbent sheet metal. No bent or broken pins on the drive backplane. A tight steel guide pin on the drive backplane. If the guide pin turnswhen twisted clockwise between the fingers, it must be tightened. Before attempting to tighten the guide pines, call the NationalTechnical Assistance Center.8.4.1 Checking for Drive-Module Connector DamageVerify that the drive-module cables are not damaged and that they areconnected properly. If the cables appear to be intact, proceed to section 8.4.2.If the drive is still inoperative, replace or reconnect cables and try again.SECTION 8.3 – 8.4
