REPAIR AND REPLACEMENT8-71Edition OneXC1000 Service8.8 SIDE-COVER REPLACEMENTThe side covers on the XC1000 seldom need to be replaced; however, ifthey become damaged in any way, replacement covers are available fromOctel Communications. Replace the left and right side covers by performingthe following steps:1. Unscrew the 10 screws that fasten the grounding straps and the sidecover to the cabinet. The 10 screws are located at the front and backof the XC1000, near the edge of the frame. Place the screws and thegrounding straps in a safe place.2. Pull the side cover away from the frame.3. Position the side cover in its correct location.4. Replace the 10 screws and grounding strap removed in step 1.8.9 SMT REPLACEMENTTo replace a malfunctioning SMT, perform the following steps:1. Turn off power to the SMT.2. Disconnect the power cord.3. Disconnect the printer and communications cables.4. Remove the terminal.5. Position the replacement SMT where the original SMT was located.6. Connect the printer and communications cables to the SMT.7. Connect the power cord.8. Turn on power to the SMT.9. Press the power button to turn the SMT on. Listen for an immediatebeep, which indicates that there is power to the terminal. Wait for thecursor to be displayed in the upper left corner of the screen.10. If a cursor does not appear on the terminal, adjust the screen-intensity slide switch (located on the bottom right corner of themonitor). If the replacement SMT does not function properly, refer tosection 6.2.1.4 for troubleshooting procedures.11. Configure the new SMT, as described in section 4.2.12. If the terminal was purchased from Octel, return the original SMT toOctel Communications. Refer to Appendix B for procedures to returnparts to Octel.SECTION 8.8 – 8.9
