COMPONENT DESCRIPTIONS10-33Edition OneXC1000 ServiceTable 10-10. RS-232-C Pins for the SMT.Pin Abbreviation Name1 GND Ground2 TD Transmit data3 RD Receive data7 SG Signal groundThe SMT can be locally (within 50 feet) or remotely connected to theXC1000. If the SMT is installed more than 50 feet from the XC1000, amodem must be installed at each end of the connection. A null-modemcable must be used to connect the modem to the XC1000.The SMT connects to the CPU through the monitor card. This configura-tion permits troubleshooting the system even if the CPU has failed; alarmsreported by the monitor card can be viewed without a functioning CPU.The SMT is connected to the distribution board at J50, using a male-to-male DB25 cable. Pins 1 and 2 on JP2 must be strapped together and thepins on JP1 must be left open.In addition to the primary SMT port (J50), serial ports J43, J44, and J46can be configured for secondary SMT connections for XC1000s usingsoftware releases at Release1.5X and newer. The primary SMT port is adata-circuit-terminating-equipment (DCE) connector. Because J43, J44,and J46 are data-terminal-equipment (DTE) connectors, a null-modemadapter must be used with the connectors. Any of these connectors can beused, but the XC1000 can only support one primary SMT and two second-ary SMTs.If the monitor card fails or must be removed, the SMT can be connecteddirectly to the CPU using the connector at J45. A null-modem cable oradapter must be used.Currently, Octel supports the Fujitsu DL1200 and the Okidata Microline320 (ML320) printers. Other printers can be used with the proper adapta-tions. For other printer use, contact the manufacturer’s representative. Theprinter connects directly to the SMT. Refer to section 3.10 for the locationof the SMT connectors on the distribution board and for instructions aboutinstalling the printer.10.9 CALL FLOWThe normal call flow between the switch and XC1000, when the calledparty is not available and the caller is forwarded to XC1000, is depicted inthe following example. In this example, the XC1000 is integrated with aswitch through a Simplified Message Desk Interface (SMDI) data link.Figure 10-18 shows a diagram of the call flow.SECTION 10.8 – 10.9
