COMPONENT DESCRIPTIONS10-14 Edition One XC1000 Service10.3 LINE-CARD GROUPSThe line-card-groups comprise the digital line cards (DLCs) and the telephoneinterface cards (TICs). TICs can be either analog or digital. If the XC1000has the hot-plug capability, service personnel can replace existing DLCs andTICs while the XC1000 is on-line. Menu 13.11, Review Card Management, shows the status of all installed line-card groups. The service engineer usesmenu 13.11 when replacing a hot-plug DLC or TIC. Refer to section 8.3.2for information about replacing hot-plug DLCs and TICs.The line-card group configuration depends on the type of TIC being used. Thetypes of line-card groups for the XC1000 are as follows: Analog Line-Card Groups Two ATICs and two DLCs Two DID TICs and two DLCs Two E&M TICs and two DLCs Digital Line-Card Groups One T1 TIC and two DLCs One E1 TIC and three DLCs One PTIC and three DLCsEach DLC has 12 channels. ATICs, DID TICs, and E&M TICs each providea 12-channel analog interface, so two TICs and two DLCs are used perline-card group. A T1 TIC is a 24-channel digital interface between twoDLCs and the switch. E1 TICs and PTICs provide a 30-channel interface,so one TIC and three DLCs are used per line-card group; the last fourchannels on the third DLC are not used, and two of the channels are usedfor signaling purposes.ATIC, DID TIC, E&M TIC, and T1 TIC line-card groups supply 24 voice-channelconnections to the switch. The 24 ATIC, DID TIC, and E&M TIC channelsconnect to ground- or loop-start trunks or CO trunks. The 24 T1 TIC channelsconnect to a T1 carrier.PTIC and E1 TIC line-card groups supply 30 voice-channel connections to theswitch. Single-cabinet XC1000s support up to three PTIC or E1 TIC line-cardgroups, for a total of 90 ports. Dual-cabinet XC1000s support up to four PTICor E1 TIC line-card groups, for a total of 120 ports.Universal DLCs (UDLCs), P/N 244–2058–010, are required for fax-capableXC1000s using Release 2.X software or newer. The DLC in a line-card group acts as the intelligent interface between theXC1000 control cards (CPU and file cards) and the TICs. The TICs in aline-card group supply a trunk interface between the DLCs and the publicswitched network. The DLCs and TICs in each line-card group communicate through a serialpulse-code modulation (PCM) bus. The DLCs and TICs transmit data, signals,SECTION 10.3
