Three exhaust fans are mounted vertically at the rear of theXC1000 cabinet. A dual-cabinet XC1000 has the same number of fans inboth cabinets.The following parts are included in the XC1000 fan-replacement kit, P/N078–1048–000, and are as follows: One 7/64-inch hex-key (Allen) wrench, P/N 169–1023–000 Two nut-retainer brackets, P/N 061–2143–000 (only required forreplacing the front fans) One fan assembly, P/N 012–2012–001 Four external-tooth lock washers, P/N 047–1154–000 Four #6–32 nuts, P/N 047–1015–000 Four #6–32 x 3/4-inch Phillips screws, P/N 047–1014–000 Four#6–32 x 5/8-inch hex-socket (Allen) screws, P/N 047–1134–000These parts are necessary to replace a single fan. If replacing more thanone fan, order additional fan-replacement kits.The XC1000 does not need to be shut down to install new fans. Refer toFigure 8-27 and Figure 8-28, and use the procedures in sections 8.6.1through 8.6.3 to remove and replace a malfunctioning fan assembly.8.6.1 Removing the Fan Grill and Fan AssemblyPerform the following steps to remove the fan grill and fan assembly:1. Open the cabinet doors. If replacing one of the intake (front) fans,open the front cabinet doors. If replacing one of the exhaust (rear)fans, open the rear cabinet doors.2. Unplug the fan-wire connector from the power connector on theXC1000 chassis. When the power connector is disconnected, a systemalarm is generated if one is not already present. Continue with theprocedure.Make sure that none of the hardware falls into the XC1000chassis when removing the fan grill.Caution!3. Using a Phillips-head screwdriver, remove the four screws that fastenthe grill to the fan assembly. Refer to Figure 8-28 for a detailed view.4. Save the grill and the four flat washers; discard the four screws andany spacers or nut-retainer brackets.SECTION 8.6
