4-9GBEMU01832STORING OUTBOARD MOTORWhen storing your Yamaha outboard motorfor prolonged periods of time (2 months orlonger), several important procedures mustbe performed to prevent excessive damage.It is advisable to have your outboard motorserviced by an authorized Yamaha dealerprior to storage. However, the following pro-cedures can be performed by the owner witha minimum of tools.CAUTION:@ To prevent problems which can becaused by oil entering the cylinder fromthe sump, keep the outboard motorupright when transporting and storing it.If storing or transporting the outboardmotor on its side (not upright), put it on acushion after draining the engine oil. Do not place the outboard motor on itsside before the cooling water has drainedfrom it completely, otherwise water mayenter the cylinder through the exhaustport and cause engine trouble. Store the outboard motor in a dry, well-ventilated place, not in direct sunlight. Drain the remaining gasoline from thevapor separator. Gasoline left in thevapor separator 1 for a prolonged periodof time will break down and could causedamage to the fuel line.@EMU01659¯1) Wash the motor body using fresh water.(Refer to the section “MOTOR EXTE-RIOR” for details.)2) Remove the fuel-line connection(s) orshut off the fuel cock, if equipped.3) Run the engine at idling speed supply-ing fresh water to flush the cooling-waterpassages until the fuel system becomesempty and the engine stops.
