1-13GBEMU01395PROPELLER SELECTIONThe performance of your outboard motor willbe critically affected by your choice of pro-peller, as an incorrect choice couldadversely affect performance and could alsoseriously damage the motor. Engine speeddepends on the propeller size and boat load.If engine speed is too high or too low forgood engine performance, this will have anadverse effect on the engine.Yamaha outboard motors are fitted with pro-pellers chosen to perform well over a rangeof applications, but there may be useswhere a propeller with a different pitch wouldbe more appropriate. For a greater operat-ing load, a smaller-pitch propeller is moresuitable as it enables the correct enginespeed to be maintained. Conversely, alarger-pitch propeller is more suitable for asmaller operating load.Yamaha dealers stock a range of propellers, and can advise you and install a propeller onyour outboard that is best suited to yourapplication.NOTE:@At full throttle and under a maximum boatload, the engine’s rpm should be within theupper half of the full throttle operating range,as listed in “SPECIFICATIONS” on page 4-1.Select a propeller which fulfills this require-ment.If operating under conditions which allow theengine’s rpm to rise above the maximum rec-ommended range (such as light boat loads),reduce the throttle setting to maintain therpm in the proper operating range.@
